Our Beliefs

New Hope’s faith and practices are guided by the following primary beliefs:

  • The Bible is the Word of God and the final authority for faith and practice.
  • Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of those who have faith in Him.
  • We believe in the historic Christian faith as confessed in The Apostles’ Creed.

As a ministry of The Reformed Church in America (see below), New Hope also affirms specific statements of belief called creeds and confessions. These shape our faith and practices as a church.
For more information on what we believe, please see our mission and purpose which are grounded in these beliefs.

New Hope’s Commitment to Stand Against Racism is not an endorsement of a political party, platform or movement. It is a statement expressing who God is calling us to be and what God is calling us to do as we endeavor to be repairers of the breach and restorers of the streets to live in. (Isaiah 58:12)

Denomination

New Hope Church is part of the greater Reformed Church in America (RCA), which includes some of the best-known congregations in North America. It is the oldest Protestant denomination in America, dating to 1628.

The word “Reformed” comes from the Protestant Reformation, which swept across Europe in the 1500s under the leadership of Martin Luther, John Calvin, and others. Calvin’s reformation at Geneva spread to many countries, including Scotland (where it led to the Presbyterian Church) and the Netherlands (where it became the RCA’s ancestor, the Dutch Reformed Church).
